Vanessa has already had a significant impact to improve our communities. She understands the need to address systemic inequity at the root cause. She served as an Alderperson for Middletown's 4th Ward. She was a leader in the campaign to secure Municipal ID's in Middletown and the state-level Green Light NY campaign for equal access to driver’s licenses regardless of immigration status. Her dedication to all marginalized groups within our communities can also be seen in her work on the Hate Free Zone formed in response to an increasingly hostile climate for immigrants, people of color, Muslims, Jews, LGBTQ people, women, and workers. She continues this work as the Volunteer Organizer for Nobody Leaves Mid Hudson.

As a first-generation daughter of a single, immigrant mother, Vanessa understands and is personally invested in improving Immigration Justice, Climate and Energy Justice, housing affordability, and civic engagement.
