Giselle Martinez
Newburgh, NY

Giselle is a first-generation American who’s the eldest daughter of parents that immigrated from Mexico. She was born and raised in the City of Newburgh and has been an active member of her community since high school; volunteering with local organizations, participating in clothes and food drives, community clean-ups, and peer mentoring programs.

In February of 2021, she announced her candidacy for Newburgh City Council representing Ward One. On her campaign website, she states, “I seek to improve the quality of life for Newburgh residents by providing different housing options, restoring crumbling infrastructure, fighting for environmental justice, pursuing racial equity in our justice system.”

She attended Mount Saint Mary College, where she worked to empower and support low-income, first-generation students in their pursuit of higher education. Post-college, she has worked as a constituent liaison for local and state-level elected officials. She also volunteers with organizations such as Melanin Unchained and Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson. Giselle is a fierce advocate for racial, educational and environmental equity.
