Lift Every Voice Project

The theme ‘Lift Every Voice’ is inspired by the 1900’s African American anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, an affirmation of the long-fought hardships and injustices endured by African American people. The project seeks to showcase the experiences and achievements of local Black, Latina, Asian, and Indigenous women as trailblazers and cornerstones of our local communities.

We are inviting community members across Orange County, NY to nominate friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, and other women of color who have had a positive impact on the lives of others. Using the StoryCorps model to, “preserve and share humanity's stories to build connections and create a more just and compassionate world," this project seeks to spotlight the women - straight, non-binary and trans - making an impact in and enriching our communities.

Nominators to are encouraged to be the person that captures a recorded conversation with the woman they nominate. A conversation with someone she knows is more likely to evoke personal connection and genuine conversation. Please explore the Lift Every Voice Project community archive and check out Tips for Contributing to the Archive to learn more. And, if you run into issues during the process please contact us and let us know how we can help.
